3D eyewear may become more common in the near future

Although moviegoers have been inundated with 3D films lately, the technology has yet to have been fully integrated into television. The New York Times reports that TV manufacturers are encouraging consumers to buy 3D sets by offering discounts, special broadcasts and 3D eyewear.

While some may be skeptical of the success of the technology in homes, the news source reports that research has shown nearly a quarter of consumers are planning to buy a 3D television set in the next year or so, and that figure jumps to 40 percent in the 18 to 24-year-old male demographic.

Despite the encouraging numbers, the price tag may still keep some people away.

"Two thousand three hundred bucks? I'm not sure I'd buy one. If all the networks were in 3-D, I'd pay a premium for it, but probably not more than 25 percent," 23-year-old Daniel Camin told the news provider.

While 3D eyewear in every household may be quite a while away, traditional eyeglasses are still an important accessory for many people. The American Optometric Association advises that those who wear corrective eyeglasses should schedule a comprehensive eye exam every year.ADNFCR-3386-ID-19929677-ADNFCR
