Many people unaware of sun damage to eyes

Despite the fact that many people know the damage that the sun can do to one's skin, a recent survey conducted by the American Optometric Association revealed that two-thirds of respondents cited qualities other than UV ray protection as their priority when purchasing sunglasses, reports MPNow.com.

According to the news source, experts suggest that many people simply do not know that the sun can hurt their eyes as well.

"I think that most people are unaware of the damages of UV when it comes to the eyes versus the skin," optometrist Paul Harvey told the news provider. "Obviously you get a sunburn. You don't really get an eye burn unless you stare at the sun, but those are rare cases."

One of the best choices when it comes to protecting one's vision from sun damage is to purchase sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UV rays. According to AllAboutVision.com, polarized lenses are one of the most popular types of protective eye wear. These lenses contain special filters that block reflected light and provide wearers with increased protection from glare off of water and pavement. ADNFCR-3386-ID-19922585-ADNFCR
