MLB pitcher experiencing night vision problems
Although the Atlanta Braves are currently poised to make a playoff run, an eye health issue in one of their key relief pitchers may throw a wrench in their plans. MLB.com reports that right-handed pitcher Takashi Saito experiences significant problems with his vision during night games, which recently caused confusion between him and the catcher.
According to the news source, the problem presented itself during a game against the Colorado Rockies. Braves catcher Brian McCann had called for a breaking ball but, because he could not see the signals, Saito delivered a fastball, which skipped past McCann and allowed a run to score.
Those who are suffering from decreased vision at night are certainly not alone. The American Optometric Association reports that a driver with 20/20 vision during the day may be reduced to 20/40 eyesight when the sun sets.
According to the AOA, those who have difficulty seeing at night should discuss the problem with an optometrist, who can recommend prescription lenses. Eye care specialists suggest undergoing a comprehensive eye exam at least once every two years.
