New technology may cut back eye strain
Although many people know that staring at a computer screen for hours at time has adverse effects on one's eye health it is not just monitors that should cause concern. Accessories such as iPads, iPhones and TV screens can have a similar impact on vision, according to Computer World.
While there are a wealth of potential technological dangers, the news sources reports that there are several new gadgets that have eye-friendly components. One such example is the Kindle e-reader produced by Amazon.com. This electronic book reduces the impact it has on vision because it is made with a screen that passively reflects light, much like paper does. This feature will not cause the eye strain that can lead to computer vision syndrome (CVS).
Despite recent advancements like the Kindle, the American Optometric Association (AOA) reports that there is still a large portion of the population suffering from CVS. Recent surveys have found that vision problems are one of the most commonly reported health issues among workers, according to the AOA, and are present in 70 to 75 percent of computer workers.
