Optician publishes book to stress importance of eye exam
The importance of eye care for young children is not lost on optician David B Miller. The Northern Virginia Daily reports that Miller recently published a children's book that is meant to emphasize how important good eyesight can be.
According to the news source, the book, which is titled "The Adventures of Anthony As Seen Through His Eyes," follows a young boy who realizes that he may need eyeglasses when he has difficulty reading the blackboard in his classroom. Miller hopes that his books will inspire parents to bring their youngsters in for an eye exam as early as possible, even if they aren't showing any signs of vision problems.
"The parents don't take them [to the eye doctor] early enough," Miller told the news source.
In addition to encouraging parents and children alike to practice good eye care, the book also strives to allays some of the fears that school-age children may have about wearing eyeglasses.
AllAboutVision.com reports that 5 to 10 percent of preschoolers have vision problems, while 25 percent of school-aged children are suffering from decreased eyesight.
