Pro golfer makes case for good eye health

Professional golfer Graham DeLaet, in a partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada, is attempting to raise awareness to the importance of eye protection. Canada NewsWire reports that DeLaet, one of only four Canadian golfers on the PGA Tour, will be providing one-on-one interaction with children to show how important good eyesight is to his performance.

"For anybody who lives an active lifestyle, including kids who spend so much time outdoors, it's very important to protect eyes against UV damage and glare even during cloudy days by having the appropriate lenses," DeLaet told the news source.

The news provider states that influencing the habits of children is especially important, since 80 percent of damage from the sun is done by age 18.

According to the National Eye Institute (NEI), extended exposure to the sun can result in a bevy of maladies, such as cataracts, that can affect long-term eye health. In order to ensure good eye health, the NEI recommends wearing sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UV rays. Along with good sunglasses, scheduling a regular eye exam can help detect any other possible vision issues.ADNFCR-3386-ID-19902191-ADNFCR
