West Florida residents can donate eyeglasses through mail

Postal workers in Cathedral City and Palm Springs, Florida, will be collecting more than just mail on September 3. The Desert Sun reports that they will be picking up eyeglasses donated by local residents and passing them along to the Lions Club, which will then donate them to those in need.

The initiative, called Jeepers Peepers, collected more than 1,500 pairs of glasses during last year's event, and Lions Club director Cathy Brant said that providing those who suffer from vision problems is rewarding.

"It's an amazing feeling," Brant told the news source. "I had one little lady who had been working in the field her whole life, and her face just lit up."

Individuals who do not live in the area can still contribute to the cause by mailing discarded eyeglasses to either of the participating post offices.

Those who have been experiencing vision problems of their own may want to consider scheduling a comprehensive eye exam. According to the American Optometric Association, adults between the ages of 19 and 40 should receive an eye exam at least once every two years.ADNFCR-3386-ID-19931159-ADNFCR
